Summary. A leading commercial flooring company, PSC Flooring, specialises in installing high traffic commercial flooring, like 3mm epoxy resin self-smoothing screed, ideal for busy areas such as manufacturing, showrooms, and warehouses. Their flooring solutions are hardwearing, easy to clean, and anti-slip, catering to the demands of high traffic environments. An example of their work is the installation at Williams F1 headquarters in Oxfordshire, where they replaced old ceramic tiles with a new, easy-to-maintain epoxy resin floor.
When planning a new build or refurbishing a manufacturing, showroom, or warehousing facility the main thoroughfare need careful consideration. For instance, the main reception or entrance areas, staff facilities and the connecting corridors. Surface finishes and lighting choices make up the overall aesthetic. But, in a busy and high traffic commercial building, the choices of finishes such as the flooring can also play a large part in the effectiveness and ergonomics.
High Traffic Commercial Flooring
When choosing flooring for your buildings’ commercial areas ensure that they are:
Hardwearing
Floors in high traffic commercial areas need to work hard and be hardwearing. Traditional floor coverings used in domestic properties such as carpet and vinyl are available in commercial grades. However, even commercial grade carpet and vinyl deteriorate over time. If you are looking for long-term hard-wearing options, then 3mm epoxy resin self-smoothing screed is ideal.
Easy to Clean
Ceramic or porcelain floor tiles can be a more hardwearing option than carpet or vinyl, however, as will all tiles, the grout line areas can collect dirt and grime. The advantage of 3mm epoxy resin self-smoothing screed is there are no grout lines – the surface is one seamless surface.
Anti-Slip
Constant foot traffic in a commercial area requires the floor covering to be anti-slip. According to the HSE (UK Health & Safety Executive) slips, trips, or falls on same level make up 33% of all non-fatal accidents in the UK workplace as reported by employers in 2020/21. 3mm epoxy resin self-smoothing screed has built in anti-slip properties making it ideal for high traffic areas.
A Winning Formula
PSC Flooring are a leading industrial flooring company in the UK with years of experience refurbishing commercial areas. We have installed 3mm epoxy resin self-smoothing screed in high traffic areas many times. A recent example would be Williams F1 headquarters in Oxfordshire. We recently installed a 3mm epoxy resin self-smoothing screed in a 155 square metre corridor space.
We felt delighted to return to Williams F1 headquarters in Oxfordshire for an additional 155 square metres of corridor space, following our previous collaboration with ACS Partition Solutions Ltd.
They were looking to match the corridor to the epoxy resin floor in the factory. In addition, the area was extremely busy with constant foot traffic as the corridor links the main reception to the offices and staff canteen, as well as the main factory area. The existing ceramic tiles were difficult to keep clean and out of context with the new look. Therefore, PSC recommended a DPM primer with a 3mm epoxy resin self-smoothing screed to match the epoxy resin floor in the factory.
Preparation of the Floor Surface
In order to clean and prepare existing ceramic tiles to take the 3mm epoxy resin screed they were lightly shot blasted to open up the pores of the main surface area. After that, the edges and doorways to the corridor were detailed with totally enclosed handheld 110v diamond grinder. The area was then vacuumed clean to remove all residues and dust. Moreover, the area was then given one scratch coat of DPM primer and a further scratch coat of epoxy resin.
155 Square Metres of 3mm Epoxy Resin Screed
A nominal 3mm Resdev Pumaflow, epoxy resin self-smoothing screed, in gloss light grey, Ral 7035 was applied by hand trowel to the entire 155 square metres corridor space.
Finally, three 6mm x 3mm movement joints were then recut and infilled with matching polyurethane jointing compound to ensure that any movement in the sub-base didn’t crack the final floor finish.
The new resin corridor floor was ready for staff of Williams F1 to return back to work within just one week. Liz Sloan, Director, ACS Partition Solutions Ltd commented:
“The main corridor is in constant use and the existing floor tiles required constant cleaning due to the dirt and grime that collected in the grout lines. The new 3mm epoxy resin screed not only matches the epoxy resin floor in the factory, continuing the modern look, but also will be much easier to keep clean and looking good. We couldn’t be happier with the work that PSC have done and wouldn’t hesitate to call them in to look at our next project.”
