October 2021 sees TD Finishing enter their 20th year of continuous trading. This is a milestone that also sees the company prepare for the next 20 years with an extensive succession plan. Dale Harris discusses the future plans:
“TD Finishing was founded in 2002 following years of working in the finishing industry. At that time, there was gap in the market for high quality finishing plant manufacture and we knew that was something that we could offer. Over the years we have grown and are recognised as a high-quality UK manufacturer. This is something that we want to continue for many more years to come.
We decided that we want the company to move forward in a way that maintains the knowledge and experience that we have built up and continues our reputation within the industry. We knew that this would require a comprehensive and long-term succession plan, something that we started to put into place five years ago. As the succession planning and training package developed, we went on the hunt for the right candidates. And three years ago, we welcomed Dave Harris to the team. Dave brought a lot of design and project management experience, something that we knew would be very important as we move forward. Earlier this year saw Mike Shawcross join us to focus on technical sales. Again, Mike brought many years experience from within the industry and we had worked on many projects together with great success.
Successfully passing on the baton requires a long-term approach with the right people. We are already three years into this with the same to come. And we are planning to continue the handover for as long as it takes with no deadline or fixed timescale. We have worked very hard to build TD Finishing into what it is today and will work just as hard to ensure that it continues into the future.”

Preparing for the next chapters in TD’s history has also seen a rebrand with a new company logo and website. This coincides with a range of new innovations, including the recently redesigned TD Connect plant PLC control system. TD Connect is aimed at improving the user experience. In addition, whilst giving much more useable data in a format that is easy to understand and manage. For instance, it comes with options for remote data access, via a built in VPN, that can be hard wired or utilise a mobile data connection.
Other developments centre around efficiencies and sustainability in the powder curing oven. The latest introduction to the product range is a true waste heat recovery system. It is designed to supplement the heating on the pretreatment tanks. This system takes pure waste heat rather than using the heat inside the oven. Therefore, maintaining the internal temperature without compromising efficiency. Furthermore, other news will follow soon on this and all other new developments.
